On the morning of May 13th, invited by the Wetland Protection Center of Hubei Forestry Bureau, Professor Mao Yan and Dr. Qiu Min of our school attended the Symposium on Value Realization Mechanism of Wetland Ecological Products in Hubei Province organized by the provincial Forestry Bureau. Deputy Director General Huang Dehua of the Provincial Forestry Bureau, personnel of the Planning and Finance Department, the Ecological Restoration Department, the Wild Protection Wetland Department, the Information Center, and other departments of the Provincial Forestry Bureau, as well as experts from the Provincial Academy of Forestry Sciences and the Provincial Forestry Investigation Institute attended the meeting.
As an essential ecosystem, the wetland has many functions, such as material production, climate regulation, water purification, biodiversity protection, scientific research, and education. Hubei Province has more than 1.45 million hectares of wetlands, ranking first among the central provinces in China. Exploring the value realization mechanism of wetland ecological products will help organically unify the protection and utilization of wetlands. This symposium mainly focused on the importance of establishing a mechanism to realize the value of wetland ecological products, the construction of an intelligent wetland platform and a resource database, the establishment of a wetland bank, and other issues. Participants agreed that Hubei Province should establish and improve the smart wetland platform and resource database, explore the measurement method of wetland ecological value, and innovate the mode and mechanism to realize the value of wetland ecological products under the premise of environmental protection.
