In the afternoon of October 28, 2024, the class of Health Insurance for the 2022 intake of Labor and Social Security majors in our school welcomed Professor Hamilton from the University of Florida, USA, to deliver a lecture. This lecture arrangement was part of our school's Experts in the Classroom series of activities, hosted by Ms. Yan Ni, the course instructor, throughout the session.
Professor Hamilton's lecture was titled Health Care and Health Insurance in the USA. The professor first introduced the basic data of the US healthcare system, then elaborated on the development process and institutional structure of US health insurance. Based on the current status of the US healthcare system, he analyzed issues such as inadequate health insurance coverage, unequal distribution of medical resources, job lock caused by employment-based insurance, and excessively high medical costs. At the end of the lecture, Professor Hamilton discussed the future direction of the US healthcare system and shared with Chinese students the experiences that China could draw from.
The Experts in the Classroom activity is an important means for our school to improve classroom teaching quality. This lecture was rich in content, presented in a simple and profound manner, providing students with valuable insights into the international perspective and understanding of the US healthcare system.
