The 7th International Symposium on Market-oriented Green Low carbon Development & UK-China Cooperation programme on Climate Change Risk Assessment Workshop (WS3) Successfully Convened


On October 24, 2020, the 7th International Symposium on Market-oriented Green Low carbon Development & UK-China Cooperation programme on Climate Change Risk Assessment Workshop (WS3) was successfully convened in the form of online video. Over 50 representatives from the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House (Chatham House), Nagoya University, City University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Central China Normal University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, National Climate Center, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, our university, and other higher education institutions and research institutions attended the meeting in the form of video. Professor Dong Shijie, the President and Professor Lu Xiaocheng, the Deputy President, were present. Director of the Research Division, Professor Liu Guowu, and leaders of the School of Low Carbon Economics attended this meeting.

  

   

This conference was hosted by the Center of Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center Emissions Trading System, Journal of Environmental Economics, and the School of Low Carbon Economics, Hubei University of Economics, with the support of Wuhan University Research Climate Change and Energy Economics Study Center, Wuhan University European Study Center, National Climate Center, National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House (Chatham House).

  

    

Professor Dong Shijie, the President, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university. President Dong briefly introduced our university’s development history, school mission, and school model, and expressed sincere thanks to the guests. Afterwards, Professor Tengfei from Tsinghua University, on behalf of Ms. Guo Jiangwen, a senior researcher of the Energy, Environment and Resources Programme of Chatham House, welcomed the guests.


The symposium was divided into two sessions, which are focused on the theme of “Indirect Risks of Climate Change: Assessment Methods and Response Measures”. The first session was hosted by Professor Zhang Xiaoling. Professor Teng Fei from Tsinghua University, Professor Zhang Xiaoling from City University of Hong Kong, Director Liu Qiyong of the Media Room of the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Researcher Xu Ying of the National Climate Center, and Professor Liu Wei of Wuhan University gave speeches from the perspectives of climate change risks and climate indirect risks in the Yangtze River Economic Zone, respectively. 

  

 

  

On the second session, Tim Benton, Research Director of emerging risks at Chatham House, Professor Xue Jinjun, School of Economics, Nagoya University, Researcher Zheng Yan, Institute for Ecological Civilization, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Researcher Liu Min, Director of Wuhan Climate Center, and Dr. Sun Cheng, Hubei University of Economics mainly introduced the climate risk response measures in the UK and Japan and the urban climate risk assessment and response research based on Wuhan.
