Sun Wang’an Gives a Lecture on the Reading of Current Affairs Classics and its C-E Translation.


  


(Correspondent Tan Junchao)On October 11, a lecture of the Canglong Academic Forum was held at the No.5 Academic Hall of the College Students Activity Center. This lecture was given by Sun Wang'an, former deputy inspector of Hubei Provincial Department of Education, and was chaired by Hu Lei, vice president of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL). He Mingxia, dean of SFL, attended the lecture as well as more than 200 teachers and students.

  

In the lecture, Sun shared his personal experience of reading Xi Jinping: The Governance of China and discussed the methods applied in its Chinese-English translation from three aspects: language features of source text, skills used in translation and translation of words with certain characteristics. Also function, identity and performance of translation were mentioned in the lecture. Sun’s language was humorous and plain. Some students were invited to do improvised oral translations, which highlighted the vividness of the lecture.

  

This lecture will help inspire and guide SFL teachers and students in the reading of classics of current affairs and its translations, which also can help them in understanding of process, methods and cultural differences in translation.
