Our Students Won the First Prize in the American International Contest for Mathematical Modeling in 2020

A few days ago, the results of MCM / ICM in 2020 have been announced. Our student team has won 2 first prizes and 5 successful entries. Among them, the team of financial mathematics Q1841 Yu Yue, mathematical finance Q1841 Chen Yujing, financial mathematics Q1841 Zhang Longjun, Jinchuang Q1841 high definition Yue, finance Q1742 Wu Qiong, and financial mathematics Q1841 Yang Xinfang won the first prize. The instructors were Wang Yubao and Xu Jianhao.


Sponsored by the American Federation of mathematics and its applications, MCM / ICM is the most influential mathematical modeling contest in the world. There are 6 questions in the competition, including 3 questions in MCM, including continuous questions in a, discrete type in B, data type in C, 3 questions in ICM, operation research and network science in D, environmental science in E and policy in F. The content of the competition involves economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, security and many other fields. Three students (undergraduates) were selected as a group. They completed all the work from modeling, solving, verifying to writing papers on the specified problems in four days. Finally, outstanding winner, final award and meritorious winner were selected, Second prize (honorable Awards), successful participants award.


The competition attracted 20948 teams (13749 MCM and 7199 ICM) from more than 20 countries and regions, including Cambridge University, Imperial College, Columbia University, Cornell University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi'an Jiaotong University.


In order to minimize the impact of students unable to return to school for intensive training due to the epidemic situation, the coach team of the school of information management and statistics arranged holiday training tasks, carried out online guidance, and provided comprehensive guidance to the participating students through various forms such as online meetings and online Q&A.
