Chancellor of Auburn University at Montgomery visits HBUE

 

On October 22th, John G. Veres III, Chancellor of Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) and Eric Yang, Director of AUM Confucius Institute visited our university. They were warmly welcomed by Vice Presidents Qi Laying and He Huigang. The two universities have signed “3+1+1” and “3.5+0.5+1” combined bachelor and master program agreement. Leaders from theInternational Exchange & Cooperation Department and School of Information Management attended the meeting.

 

Qi Laying extended his warm welcome to the guests from AUM, on behalf of Hubei University of Economics and it’s CPC Party Secretary Wen Xingsheng. Qi stated that Hubei University of Economics has built a solid and lasting cooperation with Auburn University in Montgomery with the formation of a very successful joint undergraduate degree program, andinter-collegiatecooperation has achieved new breakthroughs as well. Thefruitful cooperation not only has improved students’ global perspective, he says, also helps HBUE promote discipline construction and internationalization. He hopes the two universities will continue to deepen the existing collaboration and actively explore new potential areas of further cooperation.

 

Chancellor Veres announced that Hubei University of Economics is a powerful and excellent partner to AUM. The collaboration has had great harmony and intensity. AUM has made considerable preparations for the arrival of the first batch of students from the joint education program with the School of Information Management, constructing new accommodations and adding Chinese cuisines to cafeteria’s menu are a few examples of the changes made to offer HBUE students a better study environment and living standards. Hefurther expresses his confidence for exploring and developing new areas of cooperation.

 

During the meeting, the leaders also discussed the addition of a "2 + 2" undergraduate dual degree program.

 

In the afternoon, Chancellor Veres and Dean Yang were invited to attend the opening ceremony of HBUE 12thSports Meeting as special guests.After the ceremony, the U.S. guests accompanied by Vice President He Huigang, attended the freshman orientation of the American-Sino Joint education program organized by the School of Information Management. He Huigang gave advice to the students on improving their study habits and suggested that they continue developing their skills in English. Chancellor Veres congratulated the students for entering the program and their successful enrollment in Auburn University in Montgomery. During a question and answer session, Veres patiently answered questions from students and encouraged them to work hard and adapt to university life as best as they can.
