The Graduation and Degree Awarding Ceremony for the first cohort of international students was held on June 16. President Dong Shijie attended the ceremony, accompanied by leaders from the School of International Education, School of Economics and Trade, as well as teaching faculty representatives and the international graduates.
In his opening remarks, President Dong Shijie extended congratulations to all graduating international students and expressed gratitude to all faculties and staff who have worked hard for the growth of international students. He pointed out that the class of 2020 was the very first cohort of the undergraduate international students of HBUE, and the students have developed to be globally competitive talents that excel in professional knowledge, language proficiency and cross-cultural communication through the great efforts in learning both the Chinese language and specialized knowledge and in actively participating in various cultural events. He sent his best wishes to the international graduates, hoping that they would turn what they have learnt into contributions to their motherlands and societies, and become the friendship ambassador that spread Chinese culture. He also hoped that the international graduates can keep in touch with the school as alumni and continue to support HBUE’s development as always.
Then, the student representative, Shah Manahil Fatimah from Pakistan, gave a speech. In her speech, Manahil thanked the School for providing an excellent platform for study and cultural exchange. She said she would miss her life in HBUE wherever she goes in the future and is ready to make more contributions to the building of the Belt and Road Initiative.
In the following ceremony, President Dong turned the tassel, awarded the bachelor degree’s certificate and took the group photo with each of the graduates. The head of the School of Economics and Trade announced the name list of the students who have been awarded the degree and the head of the School of International Education conferred the graduation certificate to each of the students. At last, all graduates and faculty representatives took group photos together.
