The Third International Symposium on the Market-oriented Green and Low-carbon Development was held in our university on September 24th and 25th. Qi Laying, President of HBUE, Tian Qi, Director of Climate Change at Hubei Provincial Department of Reform Commission, Peter Young, Project Manager of the Technology Innovation Team of the British Embassy and other honored guests attended the Symposium. Vice President Professor Chen Xiangjun presided over the opening ceremony.
On behalf of our university, President Qi delivered his opening remarks, in which he pointed out that the construction of China's carbon market, as it stands, is at an important historical stage. He also analyzed the construction of China's carbon market system, from its design, institutional arrangement, risk monitoring and control policies. Qi also believes that these issues are important because they suit the needs of theoretical research into low carbon transformation. He hoped this international symposium on low carbon development will become a big platform through which scholars, both from China and abroad, can discuss issues and make contributions to the development of the environmental and resource economy.
Many scholars delivered themed speeches at the symposium including; Professor Qi Shaozhou, Director of the Center of Hubei Cooperative Innovation for Emissions Trading System, Pan Jiahua, Director of the Chinese Academy of the Social Sciences Institute of Urban Development and the Environment, Chen Shiyi, Vice Dean of the School of Economics of Fudan University, Professor Xue Jinjun, chief scientist of the Center of Hubei Cooperative Innovation for Emissions Trading System, Kelly Burns, Energy Economist form the Business School of Curtin University, Australia, Meng Bo, an expert from the Asian Economic Research Institute and Sun Yongping, deputy director of the Center of Hubei Cooperative Innovation for Emissions Trading System.
Zhao Xiaolu, Project Manager of the American Environmental Association hosted the academic salon. Gao Yuning, Assistant Professor from the College of Public Management of Tsinghua University, Zheng Chunfeng, Director of the Wanbang New Energy Research Institute, and Zhang Gao, Vice General Manager of the Hubei Center of Carbon Emissions Trading and many other scholars conducted in-depth discussions on topics including; the carbon market, the industry’s competitiveness, the environment and the economy, climate change and carbon emissions.
Environmental Economic Research was launched during the symposium.
The symposium was jointly hosted by the Environmental Economic Research publishing house, the Singapore Economic Review publishing house and the Center of Hubei Cooperative Innovation for Emissions Trading Systems. More than 150 experts and scholars from a variety of institutes attended the symposium.
