(Reporter: Peng Yao) On November 30, 2020, the School of Foreign Languages organized the supervisors of graduate students under the joint education program of translation and interpretation to study the Code of Conduct for Graduate Student Supervisors (hereinafter referred to as the “Code of Conduct”) issued by the Ministry of Education through the Tencent meeting platform (ID: 128 933 141). Prof. He Mingxia, Director of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Wu Changqing, Deputy Director of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Zhang Yongzhong, Associate Professor Zhou Junbo, Associate Professor Han Qi and Peng Yao, an instructor of graduate students, attended the seminar hosed by Associate Professor Xia Fangyun, Director of Postgraduate Foreign Language Teaching Department.
Associate Professor Xia Fangyun communicated the spirit of the notice and eight major clauses of the Code of Conduct issued by the Ministry of Education, and interpreted them, especially the “untouchable” bottom lines, one by one. The representatives of graduate student supervisors deeply studied and discussed the requirements based on the Code of Conduct and in combination with their actual situations, and promised that they will further study relevant requirements, improve the awareness for their responsibilities and missions, and enhance their consciousness on both concepts and conducts to adequately educate the graduate students and become the models of educators in the new era.
The supervisors said that through the seminar, they have further identified the bottom lines, the top lines and the red lines. Next, based on continuous studies, they will carefully regulate their own conducts, and fulfill their responsibilities as supervisors of graduate students. The seminar is of great significance to deeply study and implement the Code of Conduct, further standardize and specify the requirements on conducts of graduate student supervisors, and lay a solid foundation for establishing an appropriate and excellent teacher-student relationship!
